Send a document for signature

Use this journey to ask one person to sign one document.

Before you start

  • You are signed in and Sign appears in your menu. If it does not, your profile does not include it.
  • You have the document as a PDF, PNG or JPG file of up to 50 MB.
  • You know the signer's e-mail address. The signing link and the one-time code both go to that address.

Steps

  1. Open Sign. The Dashboard opens.

  2. Select the New envelope tile. You can also select New envelope at the top of the Envelopes page. The New envelope dialog opens.

  3. Fill in the dialog:

    • Envelope name (required) — for example MSA with Acme Corp. The signer sees this name.
    • Jurisdiction — Brazil (MP 2.200-2) or European Union (eIDAS).
    • Signature level — Simple (SES) is the only option.
    • Locale — Portuguese (BR), English (US) or Spanish (ES).
    • Document (optional) — choose the file to sign.
    • Signer e-mail (optional) and Signer name (optional) — the person who signs. If you leave the name empty, the part of the e-mail address before the @ is used.

Although the dialog marks the document and the signer as optional, give both now: the envelope page has no way to add them later, and an envelope without a document or a signer cannot be sent.

  4. Select Create envelope. The button shows Creating… while the envelope is created, the document uploaded and the signer added. The envelope page opens. Its header shows the envelope name and Status: Draft with the jurisdiction and signature level, followed by the Documents and Signers lists.

  5. Check the document and the signer, then select Send. The Send envelope? dialog lists the signer: The envelope will be sent to 1 signer: … This cannot be undone.

  6. Select Send now.

Expected result

  • The envelope moves to Running and the signer receives an e-mail with their personal signing link.
  • The panel Envelope sent — share these signing URLs appears on the envelope page with the signer's name, their signing URL and a Copy URL button. It stays until you select Dismiss.
  • The signer's status is Pending until they open the link. Continue with Follow up an envelope.

How to confirm it worked

  • On the envelope page, the header shows Status: Running and the Send button is replaced by Send reminder.
  • In Envelopes, the envelope shows the Running badge, and the dashboard Out for signature count went up.
